The New Year of 2021 begins with our annual Winter Bible Study. In January we will be studying the Book of Esther. Esther is a rich narrative that deals with themes of standing up against evil, finding the courage to act in daring faith, the payday that eventually comes to practitioners of evil, and the reward of faithfulness. The narrative unfolds with a host of interesting characters — King Artaxerxes, Queen Vashti, Haman, Mordecai, and of course, Queen Esther. We will learn about the story that shaped the Jewish festival of Purim. Most important, we will try to find in Esther a call to help us find our own strength and courage to live faithfully in the face of evil.
Adults are invited to come for Bible study of Esther on Sunday evenings in the Fellowship Hall. Jack Glasgow will lead the study and discussion from 5:30 until 6:45 p.m. on January 10, 17, 24 and 31. The studies are titled:
January 10 — Introducing Esther
January 17 — “The Killing of the Jews” Esther 3
January 24 — “Building Gallows/Night Work” Esther 5 and 6
January 31 — “Reward for God’s People” Esther 8
